3,000 Grafts: What It Costs and How Much Area It Covers

A balance representing cost against graft count

"3,000 grafts" is the most quoted number in hair transplant offers. On its own it says very little. This article explains what sits behind it.

What a graft is

A graft is a follicular unit, not a single hair. Depending on the person, one graft contains one to four hairs. So 3,000 grafts can mean 5,000 or 7,500 hairs. Comparing graft counts alone compares unlike things.

What area 3,000 grafts covers

As a rough guide, depending on hair thickness, colour and contrast against the scalp:

  • Receding temples alone: often 1,200 to 1,800 grafts
  • Temples plus frontal hairline: roughly 2,000 to 2,800 grafts
  • Frontal zone plus early crown: roughly 3,000 to 3,800 grafts
  • Extensive crown and vertex: often over 4,000 grafts, usually across two sessions

So 3,000 grafts typically covers a substantially reconstructed frontal area, not full restoration of an advanced case.

Price ranges on the market

For 3,000 grafts, Turkish offers run from roughly 1,600 to 4,500 euros depending on provider and method. In Austria and Germany, billing is usually per graft, which pushes the same volume quickly past 6,000 euros.

Why a fixed price matters

With per-graft billing, your price changes if the on-site plan calls for 3,300 rather than 2,900 grafts. With a fixed price it does not. At Apex Beauty the amount is settled before you fly, regardless of how many grafts are finally placed.

How the required number is determined

Properly, only by examination: donor density per square centimetre, size of the bald area, hair calibre, and how much reserve has to stay available for later sessions. A number quoted without an examination is an estimate with a sales interest attached.
